This initiative has the support of international organisms such as the World Health Organisation and the United Nations FAO.
The not-profit national Association for Promoting the Consumption of Fruit and Vegetables '5 al día' was set up in 2000 as the promotional instrument for this initiative in Spain.
With the slogan '5 al día es vital' (5 a day for life) it carried out a promotional campaign across Spain between 2004 and 2007, co-funded by the European Union and the Spanish Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, with a budget of five million two hundred and fifty-eight thousand euro.
